Design Interventions: Products & Process

Challenge:

Switch patients to improved forms of existing medications with the use of non-traditional communication channels.

Insight:

At the moment a script is written for a new medication and at the moment when it is dispensed, are the optimal times to communicate the details of a new drug formulation and regimen.

Challenge:

SUDEP Institute: Empower People with Epilepsy (PwE)

INSIGHT:

The barrier to action is built on time constraints during a patient's doctor's office visit (Prinjha, Chapple, Herxheimer, McPherson, 2005). "Get them to zero (seizures)" is a communication package designed to prepare the doctor for her patient.

CHALLENGE:

Capture Institutional Memory and Knowledge

INSIGHT:

Within a successful organization that creates highly collaborative environments, institutional knowledge is defined here as an emergent property of the distributed cognition of employees across the entire organization.

CHALLENGE:

SUDEP: Preventing Epilepsy Seizures

INSIGHT:

The barriers to compliance are a deeply complex problem and any attempt to “bootstrap” or self-manage this disease with a single device or app will always fall short of being genuinely effective. The tactics must utilize multiple channels of communication simultaneously.

Challenge:

Maximize retail merchandising space for the convenience store (C-store)

INSIGHT:

Activate the exterior of the C-store by creating “smart signage” and allow product-purchase transactions to flow out through specialized self-serve windows.

CHALLENGE:

Communicate the process for high Blood Pressure self-management on packaging

INSIGHT:

The use of a “false” label or “double label” was observed in-store on various pill vials. This same technique can be applied to a folded box structure by simply extending the amount of material used in fabrication.

CHALLENGE:

Re-imagine Postsecondary education for all learners

INSIGHT:

For the postsecondary education system to remain viable in the future, the emergent needs of learners must account for a shift from the Knowledge Economy to the Human Economy
(D. Seidman).

CHALLENGE:

How do we communicate about ingredients, nutrition, value and sustainability in pet-food products?

Insight:

The nutritious benefits of pet food are not demonstrable through labeling or product advertising alone. An unconventional, experiential approach
was proposed for both the pet and the owner.

CHALLENGE:

Create accessories to enhance the driving experience
when traversing long distances.

INSIGHT:

Key determinants for driver fatigue and error:
loss of focus, restlessness, distractedness and boredom. By detecting and reversing these mental states, drivers are more engaged with the operation of their vehicle and will be at much less risk of committing dangerous errors.
